Text Box: Text Box: Venustus – Haplochromis venustus This strange coloured fish is an cichlid that come from lake Malawi. Unlike the normal “mbuna” (general cichlids available as Malawi’s) from the lake, they are not very aggressive. Feeding them is easy, but don’t fall into the trap of feeding them meaty foods like other cichlids. They need more vegetable foods than meaty foods, and NO blood worms or tubifex worms as this gives them a disease called Malawi bloat that is normally incurable. Spirulina, baby marrow and plant based prepared foods are really appreciated. They grow bigger than “mbuna” but due to their lower aggression they do not attack them. This like other cichlids from the lake is a mouthbreeder and could be successfully bred by hobbyists that have an aquarium bigger than 350 liter.
